IELTS on Computer with Flexible Writing Options

The IELTS Test format Explained

IELTS on computer is a flexible test format where you complete the Listening, Reading, and Writing sections on a computer. For the Writing section, you have two options: type your responses using a keyboard or choose the Writing on Paper option and complete your answers by hand using pen and paper.

In both options, the Listening and Reading sections are completed on computer, and both formats are equally secure, internationally accepted, and scored using the same IELTS assessment criteria.

The IELTS Speaking test is always conducted live with a certified IELTS examiner, either face-to-face or through a video call, ensuring a fair and accurate assessment of your English communication skills.

Writing on Paper is an option with the IELTS

What stays the same across both formats

Whichever format you choose, it’s the same IELTS test — with identical content, criteria, and scoring by certified examiners. Results from both paper-based and computer-delivered IELTS are equally valid and recognized by institutions, employers, and government authorities across Canada.

The Speaking test also remains the same: a live, real-time conversation with a certified examiner, ensuring a fair and natural evaluation of your English.
